I call these works "the inklings" because they all start with allowing acrylic ink to flow and drip before adding the white lines or the structures.

"Halleleujah" (from the tribute to Leonard Cohen series). 24 x 48 mixed media on canvas. SOLD. These were all painted before I titled them after Cohen songs but it alerted me to the significance of songs and poetry for abstract art, and each painting sent me on a journey into the songs and their meanings within the works.
24 x 48" acrylic paint and ink. Layers of yellow. There's a subtle effect from putting the tiny lines on top of a similar color. You get a kind of lace. You get a sense, maybe, of how energy under matter is teeming with tiny particles (or waves) and how much silence is packed with creativity.

"Alexandra Leaving". 24 x 48 acrylic ink and paint on canvas. Part of the tribute to Leonard Cohen series, and titled after the poetic song about facing your unraveling life and love with courage and dignity. Cohen wrote this after Cavafy's poem about the loss of the city: Alexandria.
Drips of Ink start the show, then color blending, then fine lines create fabric-like visual texture. But in truth, it was back and forth many times, putting in the lines, then putting more background, back to the lines, until the balance was right and focus sharp and the mind, well, the mind still but excited.

"If It Be Your Will" (Leonard Cohen song)
24 x 48 acrylic paint and ink on canvas. The ink is allowed to flow but I managed the diagonal slant and smeared it to create the spaces for deliberate detail. Up close you see the lace-like visual texture.

"In My Secret Life" (from Leonard Cohen song) 24 x 48 mixed media.

"Boogie Street" 24 x 48 (Leonard Cohen song) mixed media on canvas.
Ink drips with horizon-line structure. Small flowing lines in white and yellow and black. A kind of messy calligraphy with large and small brushstrokes. The song is about the material / physical world of desire and sensuality with transient spiritual experiences.

"Love Itself" 24 x 48 acrylic paint and ink on canvas.
The first piece I paired with a title from the Leonard Cohen album Ten New Songs.

Beneath, Between and Beyond (My title)
I put words from "Alexandra Leaving" to this one. "Even though she sleeps upon your satin, even though she wakes you with a kiss....."

"Real Silk and Cheap Chiffon" 24 x 48 acrylic on canvas.
By the Rivers Dark I wandered on....

"Life Span" 24 x 48 mixed media on canvas.
Transparent light-filled areas of ink dripped and spread within a deep red background. The white streak is central, but you see it continues in a faded version of itself, as though it is alive in the middle and its soul continues invisible after it fades.
